Nordex invests EUR 50m in low-wind blades

Nordex is to invest up to EUR 50 million in low wind markets for the expansion of large-dimensioned blade construction capacity.

The initial impact of the investment, which will be made between 2014 and 2016, will be the expansion and modernization of the company's blade plant in Rostock, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, northern Germany.

The greater dimensions of the blades and moulds mean that modifications will have to be made to the production halls. A new hall for rotor blade finishing will also have to be built.

This will account for around half of the investment, with the rest of the funds going towards developing a "build-to-print" strategy with international suppliers, which will see other manufacturers fabricate blades to Nordex's designs.
