A Seattle wind company has got green lights to develop plans for a 30-megawatt offshore wind pilot project off the coast of Oregon

The US might not yet have any operational offshore wind farms, but the state of Oregon is already seeking to leapfrog the global competition by approving plans for innovative new floating turbines.

The project, developed by Principle Power, would employ five floating wind turbines about 15 miles off the coast of Oregon each with a capacity of 6MW.
